Trauma Therapy in Austin

Online Telehealth Counseling Available

Your past does not have to negatively influence your relationships, your confidence, or your future. Trauma from childhood abuse or other negative experiences often shows up when things are going well in life and threatens to destroy deepening connections with close friends or romantic partners. It keeps true joy and confidence from growing, and creates doubt where hope was beginning to blossom.

As a trauma therapist in Austin, I see so many people who long for deeper connection, yet also struggle to hang on to that connection, both with others and within themselves.

You’ve had glimpses of what could be, you’ve seen the good in people, and you’ve worked hard to overcome your circumstances… but sometimes you lose hope that you can experience true connection without fear or hesitation.

EMDR Therapy in Austin

Many times, when we experience significant negative or traumatic events, our brain and body go through the motions of getting us through the event for survival, but we do not process and resolve the event so that we can truly thrive.

Our brain holds on to these memories and they continue to impact our daily life. This can lead to ongoing anxiety, flashbacks, feeling “jumpy” or easily startled, feeling very sensitive to rejection, becoming easily overwhelmed, living with a constant sense of dread or fear, and many other unpleasant experiences.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is a type of therapy proven effective to help with trauma and other negative life experiences. EMDR therapy focuses less on talking and uses other strategies such as visual cues, sound and tapping to help your brain process and resolve prior life experiences.

I use EMDR therapy in conjunction with other traditional therapy methods to help you process and resolve former trauma, and then develop an even deeper sense of connection with yourself and with others. Then you can safely move into the state of being that eludes most people with unresolved trauma- self-acceptance.
